Yes, Carl Paladino has now apologized for his widely-reported homophobic remarks. But the real story here is that Paladino has merely retreated to a position that’s also discriminatory — but it’s a position that we’ve all come to see as acceptable.
Adam Serwer’s excellent lead to his blog post at The Plum Line. We need to be reminded that there is a baseline of hostility still considered acceptable in public discourse, and we need to change that.
Naturally, Muslims, atheists and others also suffer from this same kind of acceptable bigotry. It is now par for the course to question the legitimacy and moral fortitude of American citizens if they are not Christian or Jewish.

Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license.
